Kulala Desert Lodge – Sossusvlei

A welcome oasis situated along the dry Auab riverbed in the Kulala Wilderness Reserve, Little Kulala celebrates the splendour and solitude of the Namib Desert. Excursions to Sossusvlei (via a gate exclusive to Wilderness Safaris vehicles), nature drives, walks and eco-sensitive quad biking, explore this fascinating landscape. A balloon safari offers an awe-inspiring experience soaring above the desert.

Inspired by Dead Vlei, the design of the 11 climate-controlled, thatched “kulalas”, each with a private plunge pool, merges seamlessly into the timeless desert setting. Each villa has a rooftop Star Bed for romantic star gazing.

Once farmland used for subsistence goat farming, the region had very little indigenous wildlife. In 1996 Wilderness Safaris stepped in to rehabilitate the area and today the land and its wildlife have returned to their former glory.

NOTE: The ballooning is at extra cost and is closed on 25 Dec and 1 Jan, and from mid-Jan to mid-Feb.

Best Time to Visit Namibia

Namibia is one of the sunniest countries and is an all year destination, summer is very warm and sunny with cold nights. There is always a chance of spectacular thunderstorms during winter months. Wildlife viewing in all parks, but especially in Etosha, is best in the dry season from June to October whereas the wetter season is better for scenary, bird watching and photography. June to October is usually the peak travel season and requires planning in advance.
